Red Clover has been grown for centuries in pastures to feed cattle and grazing animals. It is derived from the same plant family as Alfalfa. Alfalfa sprouts and Red Clover sprouts look very similar and have the same growing characteristics. Spot the difference: Sprouted Red Clover leaves are a slightly lighter green colour than those of Alfalfa.
NUTRITIONAL BENEFITS OF RED CLOVER SPROUTS:
Red Clover sprouts, like their relative alfalfa, are legumes.
Legumes are a rich source of protein, among the best protein sources in the plant kingdom. Eating more legumes is an alternative to meat for some.
Red Clover Sprouts are a source of essential oils, carbohydrates, amino acids, flavonoids, vitamins and they have a high mineral content.
Vitamins include A, B, C, E and K
Minerals and trace elements include Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium, Zinc, Calcium (which is used by the body to form healthy bones & teeth, help muscles relax and contract, is important in nerve functioning, blood clotting, blood pressure regulation and immune system health) and Magnesium (needed for making protein, helping with muscle contraction, nerve transmission & immune system health)
HEALTH BENEFITS OF RED CLOVER SPROUTS
Calcium and magnesium are easily absorbed in sprout form and relax the nervous system & settles the stomach.
Anti-oxidants found in clover sprouts increase your energy levels and provide anti-aging benefits for the skin.
Clover is a known detoxifier – acting as a blood purifier
The High mineral content includes virtually every trace mineral needed by the glands and helps restore balance and hormonal functions. The minerals alkalinize the body and promote detoxification.
For women, the red clover contains plant estrogens, similar to human hormone estrogen that may help with symptoms of pms and menopause.
Clover sprouts are a dietary source of isoflavones. Studies have shown that isoflavones can significantly reduce the risk of cancer.
HOW TO EAT YOUR ABF RED CLOVER SPROUTS:
These sprouts are just too tender to cook so if grilling, baking or frying please add your clover sprouts after cooking. Eat these nutty, mild, crunchy gorgeous nutritious sprouts in salads. Try them as a topping on pizzas or use as a filling in sandwiches, wraps or Mexican foods such as quesadillas & Tacos. YUM!!!
Sprouts hold their own on their own so bring your plate to life with an edible garnish.
THINKING OF YOU & OUR WORLD:
– All ABF sprouts come in a container made of PLA. This container is 100% compostable so please cut it up and add it to your compost heap.
– At Angela’s Backyard Farming, Clover seeds are sprouted until they have grown past their legume stage and become baby green plants. This means that any harmful natural toxins that may of existed, being associated with uncooked legumes, are not present in ABF clover sprouts
– All ABF sprouts are soaked and rinsed in purified water. ABF Red Clover Sprouts contain no added chemicals and are safe to eat raw.
The Broccoli Sprouts Break through – Deborah R. Mitchell
Having studied and then worked in design for most of my life, packaging plays an extremely important roll to me. 2014 saw me start my business on smaller quantities using a a cost effective handwritten washi tape label. This was effective in a crafty home made way and worked well for me for the year.
As my quantities are growing, to hand write each label has become a time constraint issue. 2015 sees a more refined look for ABF. The brief given to talented Durban based graphic designer and friend, Paul Bragason ( who also did an amazing job designing the ABF Logo ) was to follow the washi tape formula but in a a muted natural colour pallet. Each product label was to have it’s own designer pattern allocated to it. Paul designed a ‘Angela’s Backyard farming’ signature font – which way outshines my nasty handwriting.
The new look is modern, clean and stylish – Let me know if you love it as much as I do.
